English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EALD)

Students may be eligible for this program if at least one parent was born overseas, and the child speaks another language in the home. Trained teachers can provide support within the classroom, in a small group situation or on a one-to-one basis.
Enrolment

All new students must complete an Application for Enrolment prior to enrolling at Richmond North PS. New students also need to provide proof of residence, birth certificate and immunisation records on enrolling.
Out of Area enrolments
If you do not live within the Richmond North school boundaries and wish to enrol your child, you will need to complete a Non-local School Enrolment form in addition to the forms outlined above. You will need to provide reasons for applying for enrolment at a non-local school. Examples of reasons that can be considered are listed on the Non-Local School Enrolment form. You should address one or more of these reasons in your application.
Acceptance of non-local students at RNPS is not automatic. The Department of Education has rules governing non-local enrolments which must be adhered to. Each application is considered on its merits by a school panel made up of the Principal, Assistant Principal and a Teacher.
Kindergarten Enrolments
Parents are requested to complete and Application for Enrolment and return it to school during the year prior to starting Kindergarten. Forms may be obtained from the school office. These forms should be returned as early as possible to facilitate class planning for the following year.
Proof of age must be produced before a child can be accepted into Kindergarten. Acceptable documentation that can be produced includes - birth certificate, passport, Baby clinic or hospital card. In addition, proof of residential address (utilities bill or rates notice etc) will need to be produced as well as a Certificate of Immunisation. Children without an immunisation certificate may be excluded from school during an outbreak of infectious illness.
Transfer of Students
If a student is transferring to another school or state, parents are requested to notify our school in writing prior to leaving.
Please check that all library books have been returned and that all outstanding accounts have been settled prior to leaving.
Your child’s workbooks can be collected and taken with you, provided reasonable notice is given for these to be collected.
Excursions - General

Throughout the school year, students will have the opportunity to participate in a range of educational excursions. When excursions are planned, careful thought is given to such things cost, suitability and value. When excursions are planned, we strongly encourage students to participate.
When excursions are planned, the school will send home information about the excursion as well as a permission note. This information will include details about venue, cost, transportation and itinerary. Permission notes need to be returned completed and signed along with the payment for the excursion , to the school office by the deadline shown on the excursion note. In some instances, additional information may be sought from parents prior to an excursion. This may include student medical information or information about allergies or special dietary requirements. It is important to accurately relay these details to the school as this information is used to ensure that all students can safely participate in the excursion.
In most instances, transport used in excursions is via bus. In some circumstances though, transport may be by private vehicle. Where this is the case, parents will be notified. When private vehicle transport is utilised, vehicles must be registered and insured and drivers must be licenced and have completed a Working With Children Check.
It is a requirement that students display a satisfactory level of behaviour at school in order to participate in school excursions. The school reserves the right to exclude a student from attending an excursion if there behaviour is determined to be unsatisfactory or unsafe.
Where students do not attend an excursion, alternate activities will be provided for the student at school.
Excursions - Overnight

There may be instances where students have the opportunity to attend an overnight excursion. In these instances, aside from the guidelines listed above, there are additional considerations. As the cost is generally higher for these types of excursions, longer lead times are provided so that parents have more time to make payments or can pay in instalments.
In addition, the school may need to collect more information about students prior to the excursion.
