Head Lice

Head lice are extremely contagious but easily eradicated. Where children have either eggs or live lice present, we ask that parents treat the infestation before children return to school. Please report any cases of head lice to the Front Office.

Home School Liaison

Regular attendance at school is fundamental to student learning. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve educational success, and increase their career and life options.
Student attendance has been identified as an important aspect of a student’s wellbeing and failure to receive an education has been identified as a risk of harm factor.
Poor patterns of attendance place students at risk of not achieving their educational, social and psychological potential and disadvantage them in the quality of choices they are able to make in later life situations.
Communities benefit from students who regularly attend school and are achieving. These benefits include greater student safety, community wellbeing, and a sense of connectedness for all.

Home/School Liaison Officers can support schools, parents and students in instances where student attendance is a serious issue.  They work collaboratively to develop attendance plans and can link families with support services where required.

Homework

Homework can provide an opportunity for students to practice and reinforce skills they have learned at school.  At Richmond North, the setting of homework is optional.  Parents will have the opportunity at the beginning of each school year to either opt in or out of homework.  Teachers will then only set regular homework for students that have opted in.  Students may still be required to prepare assigned work at home outside of regular homework.  Homework will usually be set on a Monday by the class teacher and returned on a Friday.

Duration

The amount of homework will vary according to age and learning needs. Particular emphasis will be placed on English and Mathematics. A general guide is as follows:

Kindergarten -         A minimal amount of written homework
Home reading in Term 2 to 4
Years 1 and 2-         Fifteen to twenty minutes each night
Home reading Term 1 to 4
Years 3 to 6 -           Approximately thirty minutes each night / or to the discretion of the teacher.
Homework is set over four nights- Monday to Thursday.
Homework is not to be set specifically over weekends.

Our school conducts a homework club for interested students on a Monday afternoon from 3pm - 4pm.  Homework club is free for students to attend.

Students are placed into one of these houses when they are enrolled.  Siblings are placed in the same house.  Students participate in house teams at our 3 school carnivals.  Houses compete for the Sports House trophy which is awarded to the most successful house group at our annual Presentation Assembly.   Students are encouraged to wear their house colours at these 3 carnivals.

Our sport houses were named in honour of the local RAAF base at Richmond.  The names refer to types of aircraft that were at some point stationed at Richmond.
